Lion Dance Probably the most well known acrobatic dance in Chinese history. The Lion Dance was first recorded in the Tang Dynasty where a great festival was held at the Emperor's palace and folks wore mask and costumes of animals. The lion is always led by a small person dressed as a child. It is said that the lion dance is actually a symbolic prayer for peace on earth when a small child can play with the beast without fear.
