Muqam of Turpan” “Xinjiang" located in Northwest
China, literally means "New Frontier", a name given during the Manchu
Qing Dynasty in China.
It is home to a number of different ethnic groups, many of them
Turkic, the largest of which is the Uyghur people. They have their own
language, culture and unique music and dance. The interesting neck and
wrist motion, quick spin and foot steps are the main characters of this type of
folk dance. Xinjiang Dance is usually very passionate, full of joy and
grace. It is usually performed with life music consist of drums, plucking
instrument and string instrument. For this performance, we are using
recording of the Turpan Maquam for noghra-surnay (a high pitch horn).
