“Xinjiang" located in Northwest China, literally means "New Frontier", a name given during the Manchu Qing Dynasty in China.  It is home to a number of different ethnic groups, many of them Turkic, the largest of which is the Uyghur people.  They have their own language, culture and unique music and dance.  The interesting neck and wrist motion, quick spin and foot steps are the main characters of this type of folk dance.  Xinjiang Dance is usually very passionate, full of joy and grace.  It is usually performed with life music consist of drums, plucking instrument and string instrument.  For this performance, we are using recording of the Turpan Maquam for noghra-surnay (a high pitch horn).
